An interview with
Dr. Gaunt

Why did you pursue medicine as a career?

I pursued a medical career because I've always been passionate about helping others and making a tangible impact on people's lives. My background in aerospace engineering taught me problem-solving skills and attention to detail, which I now apply to diagnosing and treating patients. Teaching medical students and conducting research allow me to keep learning and contribute to advancing the art of medicine. I chose obstetrics and gynecology because it offers a diverse patient mix, allowing me to balance surgical procedures with clinic-based care. I'm drawn to the continuity of care in women's health, supporting patients through the various stages of reproductive life.

Why women’s Health?

This specialty enables me to make a meaningful difference in the lives of women and their families while also satisfying my passion for surgical interventions and ongoing relationships with growing families. I provide a comprehensive range of services in obstetrics and gynecology, including care for both normal and higher-risk pregnancies, treatment for menopause symptoms, management of abnormal bleeding, and various contraceptive options. My goal is to offer personalized care tailored to each patient's needs, ensuring their reproductive health and well-being at every stage of life. What I love about my work is the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people's lives every day. Whether it's guiding expectant mothers through pregnancy, helping women manage symptoms, or providing solutions for various reproductive health concerns, I find fulfillment in the diverse challenges and rewards of Women’s Health.

What would you say your main objective is in this venture?

I strive to build strong relationships with my patients based on trust, empathy, and open communication. I believe in taking the time to listen to their concerns, understand their unique needs, and involve them in the decision-making process regarding their healthcare.

Life is busy, and patients don’t always have the luxury of waiting weeks for appointments or taking time off work to drive to a clinic, arrange transportation, wait in the waiting room with sock patients, wait in the exam room…

…tele-medicine is a new paradigm whose time has come.

Any outside interests?

In my free time, I enjoy indulging in my hobbies, which include conducting astronomical research, exploring the fascinating world of medical mycology, and embarking on adventures through travel. These activities not only fuel my curiosity and passion for discovery but also provide a much-needed balance to the demands of my medical career. Whether I'm gazing at the stars, studying fungi under a microscope, or immersing myself in new cultures and landscapes, I find joy and inspiration in the pursuit of knowledge and exploration.
